Slogan/motto: Putting success in students hands through dedication, education, communication, investigation, and collaboration @Franklin Middle School®

school name: Franklin Middle School

librarian name Leslie M. Shipkey

I like the 2nd logo, but should we have Franklin MS library, instead of Franklin MS? It looks really good.

I like them all! I agree that the slogan would be best with "Franklin MS Library." If the words get too crowded at the top, could you drop down a line and have "Putting" in the same font as "in STUDENTS' hands" but just have it around the top of the kids heads? Maybe Franklin MS LIbrary could be straight across the top in the font it is in?

(BTW, when we settle on the logo, are you guys OK with deleting this dialogue on this page so we can have it "clean" for presentation? BTW, I like the Benjamin Franklin name.) I think we are supposed to have the dialogue on here. The rubric says:
Partners ACTIVELY negotiated the content of their THREE wiki pages throughout the semester as evidenced by ongoing collaborative discussions on their wiki planning pages. I think we load the final presentation on a separate wiki. Did I misunderstand? I think you are right. After seeing Dr. Ms email today about three new pages, I think we are indedd to keep all this here to see.

How does it look now? I left the 2nd one so we could see the before and after. If you have anymore suggestions I am more than happy to continue to edit it until we have it right.

I don't really like the the Putting arching over their heads so much...Can we have Franklin Middle School is putting straight across?

How does it look now? I put up 2 more options.

I like the last one. I wonder if it would look better without the "Is"? I think it might match the slogan better and not look like we are starting with a "to-be" verb. See what you think is you just take out the "Is", leave the Benjamin Franklin Middle School the size it is, and start with "Putting" (capitalize P).

I like that one! It looks really good! Great Job!

Me, too! I love it! It's FANTASTIC!

Hi, my name is Leslie M. Shipkey. I am the head librarian at Benjamin Franklin Middle School library. I invite you to explore these pages and the library to see how Teachers and Librarians put success in students hands through dedication, education, communication, investigation, and collaboration.

Love the Voki! Her British flair is especially winning!

Elevator Speech:

(Spearheaded by: Renae Phillips ) Let me know what y'all think:

Like most administrators and educators, I am concerned how the state curriculum standards are constantly changing. I have been a classroom teacher for many years, so I realize how much time and effort goes into planning, teaching, and grading. While most teachers aspire to involve technology resources with their lessons, they do not have adequate time to locate these resources, or they may not be aware of how to incorporate it with their current curriculum. As a school librarian, I provide teachers with resources and training of Web 2.0 tools that increase the interest of the students in the classroom. Collaborating with the school librarian to create lessons that involve technology allows students to receive lively, engaging lessons. In return, students attain 21st century skills that better prepare them for future careers and/or higher education. Not only do I collaborate with teachers, but I also promote students’ interest in reading by making the school library an inviting space that utilizes technological tools that supports literacy and encourages students to read voluntarily. By working collectively as an entire school community, we strive to achieve the same goal: To create readers with a life-long love for literature and information. (211 words)

I went ahead and recorded the podcast:

Excellent elevator speech. I like the angle you took that connects the librarian's past teaching experience with the collaboraters. Gives weight. I wonder if we need to work in reading promotion somehow. Maybe a line or two about the role of the librarian in collaborating with the teacher to fan the flames on reading in her students. We share the same goal: to create readers with a life-long love for books and information.
I added some more to it. Let me know if you think it is okay.

I like that you added in how the librarians increases student interest in reading. Here's another thought. (Forgive the English teacher in me.) Can we change from future tense "will attain" " will increase" etc. and speak as though Leslie Shipkey is ALREADY a librarian doing these things? Active, present tense verbs indicate that these things are already going on and don't sound like a future promise that hasn't been tried yet. Just a thought. Read it both ways outloud using the different verbs and see how it strikes you.

I think that sounds better. Good idea!

You did a wonderful job on the elevator speech. ps. I like the option "promote".

Library Brochure:

(Spearheaded by: MV Meeks if that's OK? )

The file is TOO LARGE. AURGH! I am going to try saving it to the twupioneers school library page and see if it will work there before I start trimming or looking for another way to save it. :(

I'll start working on this with the elevator speech , etc.
